Microsoft's New Web Designer software

2006.05.15On Monday, Developers will get their first chance to play with a new Web layout and design tool Microsoft hopes will catch developers that use Adobe Dreamweaver.
Microsoft plans to release an early, Community Technology Preview (CTP) version of "Expression Web Designer", one of three new tools designed to compete with rival Adobe's extensive Web design portfolio. I'm using Dreamweaver and I think I'll try this new product.

Google Introduces 4 New Services

2006.05.11Three new products - Google Co-op, Google Desktop 4, and Google Notebook - advance the state of the art in search by helping users worldwide find and share more relevant information. The products all incorporate new capabilities that leverage user communities, enabling users to either share more information with others or benefit from other users' expertise to improve the accuracy of search results.

California Takes Record Tax Receipts from Google Employees

2006.05.09California took in a record $11.3 billion in personal income tax receipts in April, $4.3 billion more than it collected last April. It's almost certain that a significant chunk of April's haul came from Google employees -- perhaps one-eighth or more of the tax receipt gain.
The fact that a single high-flying Silicon Valley company is giving such a big boost to the state treasury can be determined by examining insider stock trading information filed with the Securities and Exchange Commission.
Fourteen of Google's top executives and directors sold $4.4 billion worth of stock last year, according to Thomson Financial. That includes founders Sergey Brin and Larry Page, each of whom sold about $1.3 billion worth of stock.

MSN Adcenter started today

2006.05.04Microsoft today is launching its adCenter online advertising system in the U.S., and will now compete directly with Google and Yahoo! in selling ads on the Web. Over the past year, Microsoft has been slowly weaning itself from Yahoo!, a rival that it had hired to serve advertising alongside the Redmond company's Web search results. Now, Microsoft will be working directly with advertisers.

Microsoft In Talks to Purchase Yahoo?

2006.05.03Microsoft has been in talks with Yahoo! about potentially acquiring a major portion of the company, according to a report published Wednesday.
Members of the company's top management are considering a deal despite Microsoft's history of winning over major technology markets - think Web browsers - on its own, The Wall Street Journal said.

Google searches for Microsoft limits

2006.05.01The New York Times reports that Microsoft's new Internet browser includes a search box in the upper-right corner that is typically set up to send users to Microsoft's MSN search service. Google contends that this puts Microsoft in a position to unfairly grab Web traffic and advertising dollars from its competitors.
